Our story
Operation Encounter is founded on the principle of making outdoor adventurous training accessible to young people from all walks of life. We believe the challenge, interactions and fun they experience when with us can truly change their lives for the better.
Everything we do is underpinned by the values that our founders, Matthew Couling and Richard Waddell, learnt whilst serving as Officers with the British Military over a combined 20 year period.
Operation Encounter’s first-class team of instructors come with adventurous training, military and emergency services experience. They have a critical role in ensuring our experiences are designed and delivered in a safe and engaging way that is tailored to each and every group we work with.
A core part of our approach is developing people. Every year we work with leading colleges and their Outdoor Education courses to offer paid training and experience to their best students over the summer period.
These motivated, high-potential individuals live and work with us whilst learning from seasoned instructors. Seeing the positive impact this has on their confidence and ambition is always highly rewarding.
