Serious about leadership and want to develop yourself or your team? This is for you.

The military is renowned for developing first-class leaders and high-performing teams. Military leadership is highly respected but seldom understood by those outside the Forces.

Our challenging and realistic development experiences provide you with the opportunity to learn about what makes military leaders and teams so effective. You’ll also increase your self-awareness and gain insights into how other people, including your team members, think, plan and make decisions. Harnessing this diversity will make you and your team more effective.

Your development experience will enable you to:

Find out what makes military leaders and teams so effective and how their tools, techniques and attitudes translate into the workplace
Develop your impact and influence as a leader
Increase your self-awareness and your understanding of others
Work with seasoned ex-military instructors and leadership development experts
Build stronger relationships through shared challenges and new experiences

"The military has defined the 40% rule - when most people think they've reached their physical and mental limits, they are in fact only using 40% of their capability. Military leaders and teams regularly use their additional 60%. What if you could access yours?"

BESPOKE LEADERSHIP & TEAM DEVELOPMENT

Organisations have similar challenges but no two are the same.

The first step is therefore to understand you, your team and your business. We’ll then define the outcomes you want to achieve and design a programme that will deliver them.

Lasting from one to two days, your experience will take place at our purpose-built base in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, less than an hour from central London.

Our immersive approach is highly practical and based on multiple realistic military scenarios. This enables you to receive direct, real-time feedback as individual leaders and as a team, and immediately apply your learning in the next scenario.

Planning and leadership tactics are introduced so you can continually learn and refine your approach. Teams are always amazed at how quickly their planning, communications, leadership and teamwork improves in a short space of time.

“We recently had a corporate team day and decided on Operation Encounter as something a bit different. The experience was fantastic, the authenticity was great and we loved having to navigate our way through the British countryside.”

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Upon arrival you’ll be kitted out with Army-issue clothing and equipment plus a highly realistic weapon system.

You’ll receive training from experienced instructors in how to operate as a military team. Once issued with your first objective, you’ll have time to plan your approach before executing your mission against the clock.

An insightful ‘hot’ debrief led by your team will immediately follow each mission, with additional feedback from your instructors.

As your skills grow you’ll rely less on your instructors and make more confident decisions, often under intense pressure. You’ll need to use initiative to plan, navigate, evaluate options and complete each mission.

For two day experiences you’ll set-up camp for the night – we have a choice of accommodation options from shelters in the woods to a luxurious hotel that backs onto our base. Camp-fire discussions will help you to reflect on your experience so far and we can invite guest leadership speakers to further inspire the conversation.

By the time your experience draws to a close you’ll have learnt a lot about yourself, your team and how the military plan, think and operate. You’ll have valuable tools you can take back to your organisation. You’ll also have had a lot of fun!

A group photo, medals and T-shirts will complete your experience with Operation Encounter.

UNDERSTANDING PERSONALITY

Understanding yourself and the people around you is a crucial step in developing more effective leadership. We partner with Lumina Learning to offer the Spark personality psychometric as part of our leadership and team development.

Completed online in advance of your experience, an individual and team report is generated – we can provide 1:1 feedback before your experience or work with your team when you arrive. Insights are linked to your mission debriefs and other development activities throughout your experience.

You’ll finish your experience with rich personality insights and a stringer understanding of how others think and behave. This will help you to lead, influence and leverage diversity in your organisation. You will also have access to the Lumina Splash app to continue your learning and development.
